The UUCSS Book Group meets on the third Monday of the month in the King Room. At 6 p.m. we have a wonderful dinner, and at 6:30 we begin discussion of the book. Everyone is welcome! You do not need to have read the book to attend the discussion. A wide range of books with some connection (even a loose connection) to spiritual or religious themes is appropriate. Bring your own ideas for future books to discuss! Both fiction and nonfiction books are welcome.
Contact Judy for more information about the group, and Diana if you’d like to contribute to our dinner. Please join us.

Book List
November 21 we will focus on The Women Jefferson Loved by Virginia Scharff, a history professor and the author of four mystery novels penned under the name Virginia Swift.
December – No UUCSS Book Group meeting.
January 16: The book will be North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell. According to a piece in a recent issue of UU World, Mrs. Gaskell was a popular Victorian era British novelist and short story writer whose father and husband were Unitarian ministers. Her novels present a portrait of society at the time, particularly class struggle during industrialization. Her Unitarian background shows up in some of her characters’ attitudes toward religion. Since it is an older book, it is available both as a free ebook (http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/4276) or a free audiobook (http://www.booksshouldbefree.com/book/north-and-south-by-elizabeth-gaskell) and presumably in libraries.
February 20 we will discuss Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith by Jon Krakauer. Relying on his strong journalistic and storytelling skills, Krakauer uses an array of disturbing firsthand accounts and news stories to tell the story of an appalling double murder committed by two Mormon fundamentalist brothers, Ron and Dan Lafferty, who insist they received a revelation from God commanding them to kill their victims.
